Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse’s Michael Gbinije scored 10 points but Nigeria still lost to Tunisia, 70-59, in the 2015 AfroBasket in Tunisia on Sunday.
Nigeria finished group play with a 2-1 record after defeating Uganda and Central African Republic earlier in the tournament. Tunisia, the tournament’s host, is 3-0.
The winner of AfroBasket will earn an automatic berth in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
Gbinije played 22 minutes and 31 seconds in the loss to Tunisia. He scored 10 points on 4-for-10 shooting from the field. Gbinije went 1-for-5 from 3-point range. He had a team-high three assists plus one rebound.
Nigeria will face the No. 3 seed from Group B on Wednesday as the tournament advances into its next round. Group B includes Senegal, Angola, Morocco and Mozambique. The third seed will be either Morocco or Mozambique, who both are 0-2 in group play.
