Nasarawa end Pillars’ home invincibility as Sunshine demolish El-Kanemi

Nigeria league defending champions, Kano Pillars’ 12 years home invincibility came to an end yesterday when they were beaten 2-1 by visiting Nasarawa United at the Sani Abacha stadium in Kano.
Also yesterday, El-Kanemi suffered one of the heaviest deficits of the season, as the Maiduguri side was hammered 5-0 by Sunshine Stars in Akure.
Goals by Manir Ubale and Bature Yaro in the 12th and 16th minutes of the game gave Nasarawa the victory against Pillars, while Rabiu Ali scored his side only goal in the 46th minute of the encounter.
Thousands of the home fans wept profusely at the end of the game as they could not believe what happened to their darling team.
In Akure it was double brace by Paul Onobi and Prince Aggrey that compounded the woes of the warriors from Maiduguri as Onobi found the back of the net in the 31st and 54th minutes of the game and Aggreh registered his name on the score sheet in the 65th and 90th minutes after league leading goal scorer Tunde Adeniji had scored the fourth goal in the 85th minute of the encounter.
In the game of relegation threatened teams decided in Oghara, Sharks of Port Harcourt recorded the second away win of the weekend with a lone goal victory over Bayelsa United.
Sharks’ Christian Pyagbara’s strike in the 66th minute made the difference in favour of the Port Harcourt side.
In Ilorin, Ismaila Gata’s goal in the 15th minute gave Kwara United 1-0 victory against visiting Shooting Stars of Ibadan.
The Oluyole soccer lords’ chance of equalising was thwarted by goalkeeper Kazeem Yekeen who saved a 43rd minute penalty taken by the Tope Orelope.
In the other matches, Lobi Stars defeated FC IfeanyiUbah in Makurdi through Tony Okpotu’s goal in the 72nd minute of the encounter, while Gbolahan Salami’s strike in the 30th minute gave Warri Wolves the lone goal victory against visiting Wikki Tourist at the Warri Township stadium.
Akwa United and Giwa FC played a 2-2 draw inside the Nest of Champions stadium in Uyo, just as Rangers forced visiting Dolphins to a 1-1 draw in Enugu.
Godbless Asamoah scored for the visitors in the 10th minute while Evans Iyoro equalised for Rangers in the 25th minute. Dolphins played the second half with 10 men as their captain Festus Austin was red carded in the 46th minute by the centre referee.
Abia Warriors won the oriental derby in Umuahia with Chisom Chikatara’s spot kick in the 18th minute of the game that also witnessed a 88th minute red card for Heartland’s Brownbraye Okpus.
The game between Enyimba and FC Taraba was shifted to today because of heavy down pour in Aba.
